Some people do super sites and target lots of keywords. This is cheaper than the method I have chosen with lot's of sites that concentrate on one keyword which are easy to rank for. It costs a bit of money to get going but once you start covering costs it's OK. The other problem with lots of sites is keeping track of 'em all and making sure you keep freshening 'em up so Google keeps loving them.
